Item In Vitro Estimation of the Energy Content of Some Feeds Commonly Fed to Livestock in Kenya.(1980) Abate, A.Energetic values of common Kenyan feeds were estimated from their chemical composition and measurements of the gas they produce when incubated with rumen liquor in vitro. Metabolizable Energy per kg DM varied between 15.2 MJ in the cereal grains and 5.4 MJ in the forages. The corresponding values in the other energy systems were between 10.1 and 2.8 MJ NEL per kg DM and between 922.7 and 343.7 SE per kg DM. These levels were considered sufficient to allow least cost rations to be formulated which will sustain optimum animal production.
