Realizing improved camel and human health is a cornerstone to attaining the objectives of the Kenya Vision 2030. The camel is the animal of today and the future, it plays an important role in the livelihoods of pastoralists due to its unique qualities and adaptation features. The knowledge and skills on camel research and development are limited because the camel was neglected by development agents, researchers and academicians until recently. Use of this "camel research and development as a tool" will enhance the One Health Approach in promoting camel, human and environmental health. The tool has been developed over the last three decades and comprises of camel database, camel extension service, human resource capacity, institutional framework and institutions. This review presents the genesis of the tool, its strength, weakness and appropriateness to the One Health. The tool is dynamic, flexible and its holistic approach is similar to the foreseen One Health Approach. This paper discusses and recommends use of the tool and its components to prevent and control camel zoonoses. Key words: Camel research and development tool, One Health Approach, Kenya
