Item Efficacy of Closantel against the Brown Ear Tick. Rhipicephalus Appendiculatus(1988) KARIUKI, D.P.; MBOGO, S.K.Cattle that were experimentally infested withRhipicephalus appendiculatus larvee. nymphs and adult ticks were treated orally with Closantel (Jansen Pharmaceuticals) at 22.2 mglKg body weight. The main effect of Closantel on the ticks seems to be thedisruption of the life cycle. The adult ticks attained low engorgement weights and those that oviposited laid a few eggs and most eggs did not hatch. There were few larvae and nymphs that moulted and majority that moulted died soon after. Closantel has a role in the integrated control of ticks and indirectly on tickborne diseases as the drug breaks the life cycle.
