Gullies resemble large ditches or small valleys,but vary in depth and width from less than ametre to a kilometre. When a gulley is forming, the water flow ratecan be substantial. It is this substantial flow ratethat results in a deep cutting action into the soil. Gullies usually occur in areas with excess runoff and concentration of water.
