During the period 1947-195& considerable quantities of coffee seed have been sold to growers in many parts of Kenya.Although an article on coffee varieties appeared in the Coffee Bulletin of November 1956 many farmers are still uncertain as to the coffee variety most suited to their conditions:In the following notes an attempt has been made to indicate the groups of varieties to be considered for the main ecological conditions found in the coffee areas of Kenya:however,when farmers are in doubt as to the variety most suited to their conditions they should consult their local Coffee Advisory Officer.

Irrigation practice in coffee was reviewed by the staff of this Research Station towards the end of 1954 [1]. At the same time every aspect for investigation was considered and the proposed experimental programme was tabled for discussion by the Standing Coffee Research Advisory Committee. It was agreed that the basic problems in need of study, which could be incorporated in any long-term trials
