Item Developing A challenge Programme On Climate Change And Rural Prosperity(2002) ICRAFThe general rationale for the CP-CC is well made in the Phase II submission and the plan correctly sets out to address all three major issues: (i) vulnerability to, and impacts of CC, (ii) adaptation to CC, and (iii) mitigation of Cc. In this regard, the CP-CC concept sets the stage for effectively-coordinated research on climate change that contributes to CGIAR goals of poverty alleviation, food security and environmental protection. It also provides opportunities for increased collaboration between Future Harvest Centers, national research systems in the developing world, advanced research institutes and other international research programmes. This is timely as the last few years have seen higher expectations for relevant, high-quality, problem-solving research related to vulnerability and adaptation to climate change and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through mitigation.
