Abstract

For many years, the Kenya Agricultural Research system was characterized by duplication of research progammes and the attendant wasteful use of resources. Concerted efforts were therefore made in the 1980s to rationalizer the system. An initial step towards this rationalization was the consolidation of the former east African Agricultural and Forestry Research Organization (EAAFRO) AT Muguga, the Scientific Research Division (SRD) and the veterinary Research Division (VRD) of the ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development into the Kenya Agriculture Institute (KARI)
