Abstract
Reports from various parts of Uganda indicate that bean yields are subjected to wide fluctuation, depending largely on soil fertility/acidity levels, and bean varieties/strains. Very little is known on the varietal tolerance to soil acidity or their P and lime requirements in Uganda. Further, crop responses to lime and P in acid humid tropical soils are erratic and relatively unpredictable, thus the need to obtain data for each condition.
