There are commonly three ways in which a tree or bush crop may be established over a given area. It may be raised from seed or from cuttings or by grafts made either on seedling stock, or stocks raised from cuttings. The practice in coffee cultivation is always the first method, but there are certain very great advantages in the other two methods, an in practically every coffee producing country a great deal of attention is being paid to the problem of. vegetative propagation of coffee both by cuttings and by grafts. The present article is an attempt to outline the possibilities of these methods in relation to coffee production. It is not intended to be an account of the technique of grafting or other methods of vegetative propagation of coffee beyond what may be necessary to make clear its bearing on practical estate problems.en
