Abstract

One major consideration during the formulation of rations for young pigs is palatability. Diets that are highly palatable tend to be consumed readily and in large quantities. This normally results in faster .growth rates by the pigs (Pond and Manner, 1974). It has thus become widely accepted today to include substances that enhance palatability in the diet. One such substance is saccharin, chemically known as O-benzosulfimide, 2, 3-dihydro-3-oxobenziso-sulfonazole (FAO /WHO. 1969).
