Abstract
The work of Mattern et al. (1961) and Mattern (1962) has demonstrated that
raised levels of the IgM class of immunoglobulins which occur in human trypanosomiasis provide a valuable means for the presumptive diagnosis of the disease. In considering the use of this technique, it is obviously of importance that information should be available on the IgM titres occurring in other pathological conditions which might complicate or confuse its application. This paper describes findings in patients with Gambian trypanosomiasis, both before and after they had been treated, and in a variety of other conditions.
