A comparison has been made between two laboratory index tests for potentially available natural soil nitrogen, for a number of arable East African soils. The newer chemical test which is both simple and quick, was found to be equally as satisfactory as the incubation test developed at E.A.A.F.R.O. The new test will be adopted for all calibration work in the future and is recommended for advisory soil analysis.en
