Abstract

Existing cover may protect introduced legume seedlings and prevent losses if dry periods follow germination. But if existing cover is left tall, it smothers small-seeded legumes such as white clover (Suckling 1965, Gullen, 1966). Large-seeded legumes such as subterranean clover however, are known to have establishe,d equally well in both tall and short pasture (Suckling, 1965).
