Abstract

Experience in Kenya has shown that, when pineapples are replanted immediately following a previous cycle under this crop and without the addition of fertilizers, the replanted crop often fails. This experience is in common with that of most other pineapple-producing countries of the world. Though crop rotation appears to offer a solution, knowledge of the form that this should take is lacking. While steps have been taken to acquire this knowledge, the rapid expansion of the pineapple industry necessitated an interim answer to ensure the productivity of replant crops.
