Abstract

In 1969 there was considerable correspondence in the Veterinary Record on the apparent increase in fleas on dogs and cats and consequently on their owners, and some discussion as to the possibility of fleas from other hosts establishing themselves on man and his domestic animals (Clover, 1969; Anderson, 1969; White, 1969). Edwards (1969) pointed out that the first essential to any investigation is an accurate identification of the species of flea and the following description of a severe flea infestation on a farm illustrates the value of this approach.
