Abstract

Several herbicides were tested for the control of Wild Oats (Avena spp.) in wheat and barley; and setaria (Setaria spp.) on wheat in Kenya. Super-suffix (W.L. 29761), suffix and barnon were most effective In controlling wild oats in wheat and barley respectively. The addition of a hormonal herbicide broadened their spectrum of weed control. Other broad spectrum non-hormonal herbicides such as dosanex and dicuran showed average control for wild oats, other grass weeds and a variety of broadleaved weeds. Igran. stomp. certrol-.Jin, dosanex and dicuran were effective in controUing setaria and other broad leaved weeds. A mixture of 2:4DP and bladex showed good control for setaria but was phytotoxic to wheat at some locations.
