Abstract
The routine cruises of Research, the vessel of the East African Marine Fisheries Research Organization, from January, 1952, to December, 1956, in East African coastal waters, have brought to light much interesting information regarding the biology of the dolphin-fish or
dorade (Coryphaena hippurus L.) and its relation
to the prevailing oceanographic conditions. The dorade is taken in large numbers by the native fishermen in Zanzibar, Tanganyika and Kenya at certain times of the year, and is commercially valuable. The flesh soon goes soft without refrigeration and, consequently, fishing
takes place close to the home port or center of distribution.
