Abstract
Artificial pollination results in a much greater set of fruits than open pollination,
but even so the number of seeds obtained is usually only a small proportion of the possible maximum; counts of the number of ovules in a fruit give totals in excess of three hundred and it is very rarely that more than 150 viable seeds are obtained from a fruit.
