Abstract

Growth hormones have been shown to be widely distributed in both plants and animals ([Romano, 1934). The same author also Indicated that the role, of growth hormones was that of promoting 'or inhibiting growth and cell elongation. Naturally 'Occurring 'Of synthetically applied auxin 'is required for formation of adventitious roots on stems '(Roost, 1976).Various authors have confirmed that auxins increase or promote ,the rooting of cuttings(Friedman et al., 1979; Gau1cheret, 1969; Hartmanand Kester, 1975; Schmidt, 1978 and rest, 1976). Auxins accumulate in root forming areas (Friedman et al., 1979) and enhance mobilization 'of assimilates (Patrick And Wareing, 1976; PhilltilJlS, 1969 andThimann, 1936). The movement 'Of metabolites is controlled by sink activity of a growing, region (Gersani, Lips and Sachs, 1980). Benjamin and Wren (1978, reported that a deve1oping organ becomes an important sink for3iSsimHates. Roest (1976) reported that no roots were formed on pyrethrum stem cuttings without auxin treatment.
