Abstract

Research on sugarcane crop in Kenya started as far back as 1952. This was later strengthened by the establishment of a sugar research section within the Research Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and Sugar Research Station at Kibos in 1964 and 1970 respectively whereby intensive work on fertilizer, pathology and variety programmes was carried out particularly in the Nyanza Sugar Belt.
