Abstract

Sand mineralogical investigations 1) seek to find a relation between the soil material and the parent rock, 2) make an assessment of soil genesis, 3) evaluate the fertility of the soil as presented by the primary minerals. To gain insight in the sand mineralogy of some Tsavo soils a total of 33 samples were submitted by W. van Wijngaarden who surveyed the soil and vegetation in the area concerned. Of these 11 were taken from B-horizons, while the remaining 22 are samples from 5 5 soil profiles. The samples were examined by the authors and results will be incorporated in the Reconnaissance Soil Survey Report.
