Abstract
The greater part of the maize crop in East Africa is grown under conditions which permit of only one harvest a year. While it is true that different localities have different harvest dates, unrestricted movement of maize is uneconomic and consumers endeavor as far as possible to purchase within their own localities. With a limited period of production and an unlimited period of consumption, storage is essential.
