Abstract

Two samples of soil from around the roots of cotton, Gossypium hirsutum L. var. UK 5I, collected from a site in Tanganyika which had been planted to cotton for fifteen consecutive years, contained 5000 and IOOO specimens respectively, per liter of soil, of a new species of Scutellonema Andrassy I958. This species is believed to be an ectoparasite of cotton roots, but its pathogenicity is unknown.
