Antimicrobial agents are important tools for controlling bacterial disease for both animals and man. Bacterial resistance is a serious issue, which can be minimized by the prudent and responsible use of these agents in both veterinary and human medicine. All those involved in the development, manufacture, prescription, supply and administration of antimicrobials have well defined responsibilities to ensure that resistance to these essential medicines is kept to a minimum.en
