Abstract

THE YEAR 1970 was the period during which we had planned to initiate the development of an expanded programme of investigation and research to embrace all important virus diseases posing significant public health problems in East Africa. This objective was partially achieved because of the shortage of virologists, and the failure of the building contractors to have the new laboratory extension, a store and 12 staff houses completed and handed over by mid-1970.
