The notes that follow are based on observations made in the Kigezp and Bugishu districts, which are similar in many respects though they are at opposite ends of Uganda. In both districts there are areas of short-grass plains at lower altitudes which are not under consideration here; in both there are also extensive cultivated areas. at altitudes of between 5,500 and 7,000 feet. These two high-altitude regions are among the most densely populated parts of Uganda, and both carry also very heavy live stock populations. Little forest is left in the cultivated parts, and the vegetation consists of heavily grazed scrub and grassland. The grasslands of Kigezi have been described as the finest pasturage in Uganda.en
