Abstract
Van den Ende, et at. (1948), reported the isolation in chick embryos of a filtrable virus from a calf naturally infected with lumpy-skin disease in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. Subsequent work has shown that this virus probably has no direct etiological relationship with the disease. In spite of numerous attempts neither the same nor any similar type of virus has since been isolated from lumpy-skin material in fertile hen's eggs.
