Abstract

This is the third workshop on Participatory Leaming and Action Research (PLAR) for Livestock and Natural Resource Management in the range areas. The earlier workshops took place in August and November 2000 respectively in Kiboko Rage Research Centre. A total of 20 Researchers, extension staff and farmers from Kiboko and Marsabit Centres participated. The global objectives were to train participants to develop PLAR skins flo work with a community based approach; flo strengthen research/extension/fanner linkages and promote collaborative learning. The specific objectives were to exchange experiences, to complete PLAR tools and to plan activities for the next period. During the 2nd workshop, the PLAR tools for diagnosis were introduced and participants expressed the need for further training on PLAR planning, design, implementation and monitoring of trials. The following PLAR tools were introduced during the 3rd workshop; planning map, monitoring experiments and organizing field visits, map of implemented activities. The programme also included taking 9 tools covered earlier and also identifying PLAR constraints hindering adequate implementation of PLAR tools.
