As with other crops cane cultivation requires certain optimum conditions. The factors that determine the inherent potential of any unit of land are its topography, climate and soil. Such physical and climatic factors therefore guided the survey for suitable cane growing areas. Such areas were indentified in Nyanza Province, Western Province, Coast Province, Eastern Province and Rift Valley Province, and were subsequently listed.en
