Abstract

Barley is a diploid with only seven pairs of chromosomes, gene expression is often clear cut, and Mendelian inheritance the rule Allard's laboratory at Davis, California, has been active in studying populations via isozyme polymorphisms and other laboratories have studied protein polymorphisms, Fitness, linkage selection, and computer studies are proliferating in an attempt to understand the population dynamics of this highly self-fertilizing species.
