Abstract

On request of the Kenyan government the process of improving agricultural research in Kenya was started by a study if the international Services for National Agricultural Research(ISNAR)in 1981. This study resulted in a National Agricultural Research Project (NARP)of which the preparation report was published in September 1986. This report set out research priorities in broad lines and indicated the required organizational structure and necessary reorganizations. The Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI),already existing since 1979, has been given a new semi-autonomous status to coordinate all research within the framework of NARP.
