Semi Detailed Soil Survey of the Yala Swamp Farm (Siaya District) 1987

Abstract

The Yala Swamp Farm of the lake basin development authority(LBDA)was reclaimed in1970. The swamp used to join Lake Kanyaboli, situated to the north of farm, bur it is now seperated from it by a dyke.River Yala used to flow into the swamp but it was canalized for over 7km, causing the swamp to drain and as result the reclaimed area used for agricultural production is about 2300ha.
