Abstract

Previous studies have shown a strong positive relationship between testicular size, scrotal circumference (sq and sperm producing capacity of testes (Amann arul Almquilst, 1962; Hahn et aI., 1969 and Osinowo et al., 1977). Measurements of. scrotal circumference have been reported to have a correlation of 0.90 with paired testes weight (TW) (Coulter and Foote 1970) and to have high positive correlations with age and body weight (BW) of bulls (Coulter and Foote, 1977 and Sharma and Berg, 1982). This has resulted in recommendation that the SC, as an indicator of reproductive efficiency, should be emphasized• in selection programmes for young bulls (Hahn et al., 1969 and Lunstra et aI., 1978), The objective of the. Present study was to examine the relationships among measures of testicular s~, body size and age in white Fulani zebu and Ndama bulls and to determine the fullness. of scroll and body measurements age m predicting testicular size.
