Abstract
Arid- and semi-arid zones comprise over 80 percent of Kenya's land area and support approximately 10 percent and 60 percent, respectively, of the nation's human and livestock populations (Von Kaufmann, 1976). Despite the size and potential value of these regions to the agricultural economy, there is relatively little detailed information about the vegetation resources that sustain the indigenous animal-production systems.
