Abstract

Knowledge of the correlations between traits in any selection procedure assists the progress of any breeding programme. Characters such as yield are usually complex and their inheritance involves several related characters. The degree of correlations is of practical value in selecting for two or more traits simultaneously, with progress being made at a faster rate in improving any trait.
