Control Maize Streak Virus Disease in Maize

Abstract

Host resistance is the most practical and cost effective means for the disease control. With the liberalisation of the seed market few years ago, different seed companies have made available to the Kenya farmers and other stakeholders in the region high yielding streak resistant maize hybrids and some open-pollinated varieties(OPV). Some of the streak resistant hybrids maize that have been in the market include the following: KH 521, WH 505, WH 403, WH 202, Duma -41, Simba -61, Pan -67, Ph. 30G19, Ph. 30V53 and Ph.30G97.
