Detailed Soil Survey of Mosiro Integrated Development Project farm (Mau Division, Narok District)

Abstract

The Mosiro integrated project initiated by ARAMAT and KARl is located in Mosiro location of Narok district. ARAMAT (The programme for conservation of indigenous forests and sustainable agriculture in Maasailand) is a community based non-governmental organization (NGO) operating in the Mosiro area. The objective of the project is to improve environmental management practices that will ensure: * Adequate water for both human and livestock * Food for security through introduction of improved crop varieties of the traditional and the introduction of new sources of food. * Improvement of local livestock * Alternative sources of income The soil of the area had not been evaluated for their suitability for farming. Soil Survey of the farm was carried out in September, 1994. The survey took 7 days. A topographical survey at 1:2500 scale was carried out to first provide a base map. The project farm is 114 acres.
