In any study involving agronomic science and practices there are a considerable number of related subjects which must also be evaluated in the light of their importance and support of agronomy. Basic requirements of crop production are soil, water, light, air and seed. Added to these basic requirements are a host of others such as crop protection, labour, tools and implements, tillage, soil fertility, power or energy sources other than human, suitable varieties, which are adapted both for production and consumption and many others. The marginal semi-arid lands of Kenya Soils are quite variable both in productive potential and in present physical condition. Some soils have high production potential and remain in good physical condition. Others which once had high production potential have almost been destroyed by some misuse though overgrazing and/or bad farming practices. en
