Abstract
Dams constructed for domestic and agricultural purposes in Tanzania have been successfully stocked with fish. The geographical distribution of dams is discussed with some consideration of their physical, chemical and biological
characteristics. The use of Tilapia in stocking dams is described together with the present distribution of these and other self-stocked species. A review of the fisheries exploitation of dams in Tanzania is made and a few estimates of the annual crops from dams are presented.
