dc.description.abstractThe original buildings which formed the nucleus of the Scott Agricultural Laboratories were opened on 7th June.1913. by Mr. C. C. Bowling. C.M.G.(afterwards Sir Charles Bowring) as asanatorium. The institution was named in honour of the late Dr. Henry Scott. of the Church of Scotland Mission.Kikuyu. After a period of usefulness as a hospital during the Great War. insufficient support was forthcoming to justify its continued use as a sanatorium. and so with ten acres of land. it was handed over to Government by the late Sir Northrup McMillan for public purposes.In 1922. on the closing down of the Kabete Experimental Farm. the property. with a small additional area of land. was set aside for the use of the Agricultural Department the buildings being converted into laboratories and renamed the Scott Agricultural Laboratories.en
