R.; N.D.A., East African Agricultural Research Station, Amani, Tanganyika TerritoryArtificial pollination results in a much greater set of fruits than open pollination, but even so the number of seeds obtained is usually only a small proportion of the possible maximum; counts of the number of ovules in a fruit give totals in excess of three hundred and it is very rarely that more than 150 viable seeds are obtained from a fruit.
