Abstract

Root tip chromosome numbers were 2n = 2x = 60 (10 large + 50 small) in Agave amaniensis Trelease and Nowell, A. anguistifolia Haw. and hybrid derivatives between them including several sports), and 2 = 5 = Probably 150 (25) large + c. 125 small) 10 A. ,vLSalana Pernne and Its cv. Hildana. Mean DNA amounts and standard errors of means in pg per 4C nucleus were: A. umaniensis 12.'} ± 0.5 and A. sisalana cv. Hildana 35.1±1.0. No chromosome variation within genotypes was seen, even in bulbils or suckers of hybrid spots and so morphological variation among species and hybinds did not appear to involve change in root tip chromosome number at a given ploidy level.
