Annual Report Of The Kenya Soil Survey 1982

Abstract

During the year approximately 300,000 hectares were surveyed in t~e Bondo (Siaya District) and Trans-Mara (Narok District) areas at reconnaissance level while 660 hectares were surveyed in Wei Wei Irrigation Scheme (West Pokot District) at semi-detailed level. At detailed level, about 330 hectares were covered in Coffee Research Station, Ruiru (Kiambu District) and Nini Farm, Naivasha (Nakuru District). Preliminary surveys (Site Evaluations) covering approximately 150,000 hectares were completed in the Trans-Mara Division (Narok District), Mwikya's Farm (Machakos District), Ndeiya Karai area (Kiambu District) and the National Youth Service Farm, Kirimun (Samburu District). The Exploratory Soil Map of Kenya and the Agro-climatic ZOne Map of Kenya (both at scale 1:1 million) were printed. The editing of the reconnaissance soils reports for the Amboseli Kibwezi area and the Mtito Andei and Voi areas continued during the year. Report writing for the various soil surveys which had been completed in 1981 continued. Ten soil survey reports, four conference papers and one internal communication were published.
