Department Of Agriculture Annual Report 1914-1915

Abstract

In my annual report for the year 1913-1914 I summarized the advancement of the Industries of Agriculture and Stock Breeding in the East Africa Protectorate over a period of seven years. I am glad to say that the year under review was one of steadily increased prosperity. The available statistics for the year do not bear out this statement, but it must be remembered that the abnormal conditions resultant on the outbreak of the war in August 1914 rendered such statistics unrepresentative of the real progress of the Country. The Continental markets became, in many instances, closed to would be exporters, whilst increased freight if and Insurance to cover war risks on exportable commodities seriously handicapped the export trade
