The start and end of the rainy season is of importance as far as scheduling crop planting is concerned. This is especially critical in the second season! when rainfall is less reliable both in amounts and distribution. Each month of the year is divided into three parts (dekads), the first has days 1-10, the second 11-20 and the third 21-till end of month. The terms "early", "mid" and "late" are used to denote which of the dekads is referred to. The dekads enable the farmer to make a better decision to plant than if the whole month is given.en
