Abstract
The salinity tolerance of Okra (cv. Pusa
sawni) was studied in pots artificially salinized,
with salts of NaCI, Na2 SO1, NaHC03 and
Cache at different EC levels, through irrigation.
All the parameters observed, showed a
decline with increasing levels of salinity. The
yield in terms of fruit .number decreased sharply
up to 68 percent and in terms of fruit dry
weight up to 41 percent at high salinity treatment
(EC 7.5-8.3 m mhos/cm). With increasing
salinity total sugars and calorific values decreased
considerably in fruits. A definite relationship
between yield and shoot /root ratio
was •observed
