Abstract

Broad breasted bronze turkeys were fattened from 12 weeks to 22 weeks -of age under deep ioitter management.t. The live-weights at 22 weeks averaged 10 lb. 11.2 oz. per bird, with a total food consumption fr-om hatching of 54 lb. 2.2 oz. and an overall feed conversion rate of 5.1: 1 The killing out percentage was 80.2per cent, ~living a dressed carcass weight of 8 lb. 9.3 oz. The total cost of production was Sh. 25/39 per bird or Sh. 2/38 per pound live-weight Or Sh. 3/04 per pound dressed weight. The main items of expenditure are listed as percentages of the total costs of production, food accounting for 55 per cent of the cost. The profit per bird was Sh. 12/55 when a selling price -of Sh. 4/50 per pound dressed weight was obtained.
