Abstract

One Veterinary Officer, Mr. A.T Crowther, has been attached to the Laboratory for the past two months and is now proceeding to Gilgil to conduct an investigation into a disease of Sheep which causes serious losses in some flocks. In the year early stages of Institutions like this, lack of necessities, and the difficulty of enjoying any real organisation are handicaps which seriously militate against the obtaining of accurate results. I trust the present report will demonstrate that these Officials have not permitted any such obstacles to stand in the way of the proper performance of work, much of which has been of a nature outside their ordinary duties. For the carrying on of the work demanded the strain on the staff has been considerable, (especially has this been the case with Mr. Galway, the necessity for maintaining accurate records of the numerous animals being apparent. It is a very great pleasure to record the hard and good work which all have performed during their respective periods at the Labaratory. Sanction has been obtained for the erection in the course of the coming year, of suitable accommodation for assistants, the distance from Nairobi making it impractical for them to live in town, and the climatic conditions during the rainy seasons render continuous tent life most unpleasant.
