Abstract
Bacteria and several actinomycetes in the genus Streptomyces have been shown to degrade lignocellulose (Odier et al., 1979; Antai, 1985; Iyo and Antai, 1988). Lignocellulosic materials have received attention as possible alternatives for the production of single cell protein (Hans and Callihan, 1974; Chahal et al., 1979). The use of single cells in food and animal feed has been reported by Sandana et al. (1979).
