Abstract

The most suitable methods of brooding chicks in Uganda are outlined. The weekly growth rates, feed consumption and feed conversion rates for pullets from day-old to eight weeks of age are given. The two-month pullet weighed 1 t lb., having consumed 5 lb. of chick mash, with a feed conversion rate of 4.3 to 1. The cost of production of a two month- old pullet hatched on the farm is Sh. 5/35 and when purchased at day-old Sh. 6/10.
